Educational Free Boxing

Learning and progress with controlled contact: the Educational Free Boxing Opens.

A female student throwing a high kick into focus mitts held by Olivier Blanco

Educational Free Boxing is a sporting and technical contest over a single round, with no decision. Strikes stay at the intensity of a club training session: the focus is on technique and control, not power. We call it a bout, not a fight. It is often aimed at young people, but not only them.

The national Educational Free Boxing Opens

Since 2019, Olivier Blanco has organised a national Educational Free Boxing Open every year. Everyone fits in as many bouts as possible to gain experience against fighters with different styles. Even when a submission is secured, the bout restarts until regulation time is up. Light contact or semi-contact, full protective gear and attentive refereeing frame every contest.

Guidelines for young people

  • Under 13: one 2-minute round, light contact.
  • 14 to 17: one 3-minute round, semi-contact.
  • On the ground, work is limited to 10 seconds.

These guidelines come from the federation rules. At the Opens, bouts are held without a decision.
