What happens in a Free Boxing class?

Warm-up, stand-up technique, wrestling, groundwork, sparring: how a typical session runs.

A Free Boxing class usually lasts an hour and a half. Here is what a typical session looks like.

1. Warm-up

Mobility, cardio and strength work: your body needs to be ready to strike, grapple and fall.

2. Stand-up technique

Punches, kicks, knees, elbows, defences and footwork, as shadow boxing, on Thai pads or with a partner.

3. Wrestling and throws

Jacket grips, off-balancing, sweeps and throws. You also learn how to breakfall without getting hurt.

4. Groundwork

Control positions, joint locks and chokes. As time on the ground is limited in competition, the focus is on efficiency.

5. Sparring

Training bouts adapted to level and age, from the most technical to the most full-on. Then a cool-down and stretching.
